Fall jitters are upon us.
Of course being at home in California for the summer is beyond amazing- who wouldn't love the California sunshine with their loved ones!? However, whenever I think of soccer and Coe and season starting again, I cannot help but grin from ear-to-ear. No joke, I have butterflies right now writing this blog post.
There is something so special and magical about back to Coe and the team after a long summer away. Coe, its inhabitants, and my little soccer fam bam have quickly become my home away from home and being apart for so long is truly exhausting. Who knew our hearts would be big enough to love two cities, places, and a multitude of people so much!? No matter where you are, home-home or Coe-home, you always miss the other, which is not a bad thing at all.
Among the many, MANY things I am looking forward to in the fall, I decided to (painfully) narrow my list down to my top 30 favorite parts of arriving at school after months of separation.
1. Arriving at the first day of Local's Week and FINALLY getting to bond as a new team/learning about all the new players' backgrounds, weird quirks, and aspirations. (Also, staying up way too late getting to know the fresh faces of the program and catching up with all my besties. Truly makes my heart happy.)
2. Receiving all of the new soccer gear. It's literally like Christmas morning.
3. Stepping foot onto the track/field for our team's fitness test and first practice. You really bond over that long and tiring first day.
4. Seeing all of the other fall athletes around campus during the few weeks you're the only people there and catching up on your summers. Athletes unite!
5. Moving into your dorm/apartment and (over) decorating.
6. Soccer, soccer, soccer. And maybe some more soccer. #ballislife
7. When your roommate(s) finally moves in. Yay for no longer being alone!
8. Move in day for the school/seeing all the friends you missed for three long months.
9. Orientation and scoping out all of the bright, new faces.
10. First day of school because everyone is so giddy and hopeful for the year to come. Not to mention Syllabus Sunday ;)
11. First game/first time picking up your jersey from Dougie/ first Dougie wave-of/first time traveling together as a team.
12. Ringing the Victory Bell after our first win.
13. Clubs, clubs, clubs.
14. (Too many) Target/Starbucks runs with your teammates.
15. More decorating with your roommate.
16. Pumpkin patches and apple picking with your besties.
17. Parties (G-rated, of course)
18. Leaves changing colors and the weather cooling down.
19. Late night practices and even later dinners with the team.
20. Away games.
21. Home games.
22. Hearing your name over the intercom before a game/waving to your fans in the crowd (or watching via the live stream.)
23. Calling your parents after a game to discuss your play (whether good or bad.)
24. Friends, friends, friends, and movie nights.
25. NEW WEIGHT ROOM/GYM.
26. Homecoming.
27. Late night bunk talks with your roomies/besties.
28. Awesome professors and classes.
29. Surprise visits from family.
30. Finally being back where your heart feels the fullest.
