"She believed she could, so she did."
For any unfamiliar soccer fans, the quote "she believed she could, so she did" became the slogan and main theme of the Women's U.S. National team this past Olympic run.
Being an athlete on the "underdog" team, the team no one ever believes in, and the team in which spectators and haters constantly neglect and look down on, this quote really hits home.
No, the IIAC population does not see little Coe College beating Wartburg in the Conference Tournament to advance one step further. No, any soccer fanatic is not going to say they think the outcome of our match Saturday is going to be in Coe's favor. And no, not one individual is going to attribute last season's success to talent...according to the IIAC world, our progress in 2015 was a fluke and cannot be achieved again.
But you know what, I don't care what people think. My coaches do not regard for what the naysayers comment. And most importantly, my team does not believe in the critiques, slams, and doubt the Iowa soccer world has in the ability of our program. At the end of the day, WE believe in ourselves. WE know our true ability and potential. WE have faith in our talents, passion, and heart as a team. And, WE know we can defeat the odds, use our haters as our motivators, and crush Wartburg Saturday. It doesn't matter what other people say as long as we have the confidence in ourselves to achieve what others thought was impossible.
Here is our spin on why "we believed we could, and we will":
